Anatomy – 18 hours

Students will study basic human anatomy focusing on the musculoskeletal systems from the Western medical perspective. This knowledge base will enhance the student’s practice considerably and heighten their kinesthetic experience while receiving treatments.

Traditional Chinese Medicine – 25 hours

This course will present some of the basic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in order to give students a broader understanding of the origins of Shiatsu. Essential concepts such as Yin and Yang, The Five Elements, Chi and the 14 Meridians will be explored. In combination with the Western Anatomy, this knowledge will fortify the student’s practice of Shiatsu.

Shiatsu Techniques – 85 hours

During this course, students will learn both basic and advanced hands-on Shiatsu techniques with the client in prone, supine, side-lying and sitting positions. Contra-indications, conditions that respond well to Shiatsu, chair and table Shiatsu will also be covered. Students will master pressure application using palms, thumbs, arms, elbows and knees.

Business Skills/Ethics – 6 hours

This course is presented as a simplified series of steps ranging from creating your business name to developing your website to reporting and paying self-employment income tax. With this information, you will feel confident in understanding the process, and have the tools and resources to be able to start your own small business.

Student Clinic – 16 hours

Students will participate in four Student Clinics beginning in the second week of the program. Each student will perform 2 – 3 treatments per clinic.
