Expressive Arts Introductory Workshop
The Expressive Arts Therapy Program offers introductory group workshops throughout the school year. These events provide an opportunity to learn more about our program, to directly experience expressive arts work, to further develop professional resources and to explore a embodied healing through the expressive arts.
Introduction to the Expressive Arts Workshop

This workshop is designed to support participants in an experiential understanding of the work and practice of intermodal expressive arts. Participants are guided toward an embodied understanding of the potential of creative expression in personal discovery and professional practice.
The workshop utilizes the tools of intermodal expressive arts ; writing, story, visual arts and movement. The emphasis is on a playful approach to all activities and no previous experience is required to engage the work.
Workshop Facilitators
Lara is an artist, yoga instructor and certified expressive arts therapist who practices an embodied approach to activate and restore the body. She is a professional dancer and passionate collaborator with international experience as a performer, teacher, coach and choreographer. Reconnecting people with their own sense of play and discovery, Lara applies expressive arts to encourage self-awareness, meaning and ease through the art of creation and improvisation. As an educator, she has worked with children, youth and adults for over 20 years, helping to carve stronger pathways for individuals and artists. Lara studied at the Vancouver School of Healing Arts, obtaining her certification in Expressive Arts Therapy and is continuing her studies as a master’s student at the European Graduate School in Switzerland. She currently has a private practice, offering both individual and group sessions in Vancouver and North Vancouver. bodiesofknowledge.ca
Sara Brown is a certified expressive arts therapist, artist, and arts educator. She is fascinated by the healing potential of creative exploration and play for both individuals and communities. She strives to cultivate a playful and supportive environment in her work and encourages participants to safely explore their own creative edges and take risks. Sara has experience facilitating creativity groups, teaching visual arts classes for adults and children, and leading arts focused team building events in Vancouver. She obtained her certification in expressive arts therapy from the Vancouver School of Healing Arts and has also studied at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, and at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. Sara currently works in private practice doing expressive arts therapy and arts based counselling, continues to lead workshops and classes, and makes art in her spare time.
